Mr. Ginandjar Kartasasmita is a figure who has an extensive experience in the field of government, academic, and social humanity. His experience in the field of government, among others, as Chairman of BKPM in 1985-1988, Minister of Mining and Energy for Kabinet Pembangunan V in 1988-1993, State Minister of National Development Planning/Chairman of Bappenas for Kabinet Pembangunan VI in 1993-1998, Coordinating Minister for Economic, Financial and Industrial Affairs and Chairman of Bappenas for Kabinet Pembangunan VII, in March until May 1998. In the field of legislative, his experience, among others, as Vice Chairman of MPR in 1999-2004, Chairman of DPRD in 2004-2009, and Member of the Presidential Advisory Council in 2010-2014.
He is also known widely as an experienced academic, among others as Senior Lecturer for the Postgraduate Program at the Bandung Institute of Technology in 1995-1998, Professor at Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University, Japan in 2004-2011, Lecturer of the Doctorate Program in Administrative Science at the University of Brawijaya, Jakarta Campus until 2010, Lecturer of the Doctorate Program in Management and Social Science at Pasundan University from 2008 until now.
Mr. Ginandjar Kartasasmita received various awards and marks of services from the Republic of Indonesia and other friendly countries, including Bintang Republik Indonesia Utama in 1998 and The Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun awarded by the government of Japan in 2008.
Mr. Ginandjar Kartasasmita studied at Institut Teknologi Bandung in 1959-1960. He earned his Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from Tokyo University for Agriculture and Technology, Chemical Engineering in 1965 and Bachelor of State Administration from Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Administrasi (STIA) LAN in 1980.
Mr. Ginandjar Kartasasmita received his Honorary Doctorate from Takushoku University in Japan and Northeastern University, USA in 1995, Gadjah Mada University in 1995, and Tokyo University for Agriculture and Technology, Tokyo in 2005, and Doctorate in Government from National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) in 2016.
